Space is Limited $65      Experience Required: Beginner       Age: 16+
Instructor: Sharon James, Palm Cottage Glass with Diane Olson assisting

    Overview:
We’re going to make some colorful, gorgeous art glass designs to charge up your green space for Spring & Summer In this workshop you will create a special design to either stake in a pot or in your garden area or to hang outside in your patio or garden The hanging ornaments will be suspended on a sparkling glass crystal chain and the stakes will fit on a standard garden stake (provided to you.)  We will be discussing design ideas and if you don’t have something in mind, spark your imagination with my book of colorful fused glass pictures. We will be working with icicle clear glass base for this workshop. Although these workshops are listed as beginner, the more you progress with glass design, the more amazing your piece of art glass will be!

This is a beginner class and for those that have some experience with glass, even better. Bring a notepad if you are serious about learning fused glass and bring your questions. We will work closely with each participant to carry out your selection of design. Participants that have attended workshops in the past can get started early and not go through the basic cutting glass instruction again. If this applies to you, in order to start early, you must arrive a few minutes ahead and pick out your base This is a must!

In this art glass workshop, you will learn what you need to know to do your first piece of kiln fused glass work. Topics discussed will be safety, glass compatibility, glass colorings, types of glass, tools needed, kiln information on fused glass manufacturers. Demonstrations of how to score and break glass, layout and design suggestions.   We will be working exclusively with COE96 Compatible glass. When your art piece is completed, it will be safely transported to Palm Cottage Studio where it will be carefully fired and annealed in a digital kiln for strength and durability Your finished artwork will be delivered to Angelika, President of Artist Guild of Columbia County for you to pick up. Other arrangements may be made for South Carolina participants.

    Additional Notes:

You will be using your hands, sitting, standing and walking for this art form. Wear casual comfortable clothing and a plastic disposable apron is available if needed If you wear corrective lenses, bring them! If you have any questions, please feel free to email Sharon at sharonjamesartist@gmail.com.  Closed toe shoes must be worn. Safety glasses must be worn for eye protection during class for cutting, snipping glass and grinding glass and will be provided You are responsible for wearing the safety glasses provided!

    Materials:
Each participant will be furnished with a set of glass tools for use in class. Art glass in many colors along with many different embellishments such as frit, stringers, hand pulled vitrigraph stems and cabochons will be provided for your artwork design. Materials provided in the workshop are for construction of this designated art project only On occasion, dichroic glass may be purchased for your design needs.
